About Us
Hesket House was designed and developed by the owners in 1998 and was purpose built as a large family or "tribal" home. The construction is of poured earth (granetic sand) and reclaimed railway sleepers. Mud Rock from the property was used to construct the large open fireplace in the communal living area. The internal ceilings are compressed straw, and the use of all natural materials, creates a very healthy, earthy and comfortable environment.
The house nestles serenely in the 150 acres of original temperate forest, and is home to a large range of indigenous birds, and animal life includes Kangaroo, Koalas, Wallabies, Wombats, and Echidnas.
The lakes and wetlands on the property, support a variety of Water Birds, Black swans, Pacific & Brown Ducks, Manned Goose or Wooducks, Cormorant, Ibis & Herons, to name a few of the seasonal visitors.
The well established native gardens around the house and lake are a wonderful place to observe many of the native species and there are 5 kilometers of bush tracks to wander through, enabling you to enjoy the abundance of flora and fauna.
The owners of Hesket House, Peter Sean & John are very mindful of living lightly and sustainably in this fragile environment, and are committed to protecting and caretaking this superb piece of Australian Landscape.
